The winter months could be quite an exciting time to visit the city of Berlin and stay in Berlin apartments. If you are well dressed and have a scarf, if you enjoy the indoor entertainment and love the delicious hot meals and mulled wine, then a trip to Berlin will suit you just right. The capital of Germany is considered to be among the cheapest winter holiday destinations. It could be accessed with many cheap flights available and the accommodation that could be found here is also cheap. In the city of Berlin tourists are used to pay little and get a lot. The food at the restaurants is not expensive, the tours are affordable and thus, in the end of the day you will find enough money in your pocket to buy mulled wine and some presents at the Christmas Market.
The cultural scene in Berlin during the winter months is busy as well. There are many art exhibitions going on, and all the galleries and museums are open, while theatres stage new performances. The time is also great for some historical sightseeing as well. Here could be seen the berlin wall, the Jewish Museum, the Holocaust Memorial, etc. Now that the new Ostbahnhof Station is open, tourists can also go on different one day or two days excursions to many international and domestic towns and they can do that at an affordable price. The city of Berlin is connected to all surrounding countries, so a trip to Paris or to Poland are all possible and easy to arrange. The weather in Berlin at that time of the year could be quite cold and severe, but if you have warm clothes, this should not be a problem.
The main events that are organized during the winter in Berlin include the numerous Chirstmas markets that start in the end of November and are very tempting with their decoration, tasty things to eat and the famous mulled wine and also the Nikolaustag on 6th December, the Heiligabend on December 24th and Christmas on December 25th and 26th. There are also the Berliner Silvesterlauf, which is a pancake run on the New year’s Eve that starts at Grunewald. Another interesting event are the Tanztage, which are two weeks of dancing events in the first days of January. There is also the international Grune Woche or Green Week, which is a festival in January with a lot of drinks and food offered from many countries all over the world.
Those who love music, will enjoy the UltraSchall festival in the middle of January from some leading world famous ensembles. At the end of January or the beginning of February is also organized the Transmediale, which is the biggest international festival for digital culture and media art. Of course, I should also mention the Berlin International Film Festival, which is organized in February and presents more than three hundred films from many countries in the world.
